Bridging the Digital Divide: The Story of CASAI and Empowering the Gambian Community
The Center for the Advancement of Science and Innovation (CASAI) isn’t your typical non-profit. Our journey began in 2015, driven by a desire to empower the Gambians community and bridge the digital divide.
From Humble Beginnings to Lasting Impact:
Our story started in 2016 with a cleaning service initiative. This initial project allowed us to build a foundation and establish ourselves within the community. In the same year, we embarked on a mission to support the Gambia Police Force. We provided free computer repair and maintenance services for the headquarters in Banjul. This not only aided law enforcement efforts but also solidified our commitment to serving the public good.
Digital Literacy: A Beacon of Opportunity:
Recognizing the growing importance of digital skills, CASAI launched its free digital literacy program in 2017. Since then, the program has been a game-changer for countless individuals across Gambian communities. We’ve witnessed firsthand how digital literacy unlocks doors of opportunity, empowers people of all ages, and equips them to navigate the ever-evolving digital world.
Students Take Center Stage:
Our center has become a hub for learning, with students from high schools and universities flocking to us for support. They find a welcoming environment to complete assignments, access resources, and gain valuable digital literacy skills that will prepare them for the future.
Funding the Future:
Digital literacy is vital, and the community’s overwhelming interest fuels our dedication. We’ve continued to fund this essential program despite the challenges. However, we recognize the potential for even greater impact with additional support.

Beyond Classrooms: Empowering Single Mothers and Strengthening Security:
Our commitment extends beyond classrooms. In 2018, we initiated the Single Mother Frontier Program, offering financial assistance for rent and school fees. We also encourage their children to participate in our free digital literacy program, fostering a brighter future for both generations.
Furthermore, recognizing the importance of cybersecurity, we launched the Cybersecurity Awareness Campaign in 2021. This initiative aims to educate every Gambian citizen about online safety and responsible digital practices.
A Partnership for Progress:
In 2021, a pivotal moment arrived with the signing of an MOU with the Ministry of Education. This collaboration allows us to reach students, parents, and teachers throughout the Gambian education system, fostering a culture of digital safety and awareness. From Serekunda Lower Basic School to Ndows Senior Secondary School, our impact continues to grow.
